Artist's Statement and Commentary:
Hi, my name is Ibi Han. I'm a 23-year-old Nigerian-born-artist. My music pulls inspiration from afrobeat, alternative RnB, and reggae. I believe music transcends language and culture. My current focus is on capturing what it means to be young today, the anxiety, joy, and pain that come from the transitional period from adolescence to adulthood. This goal resulted in the two songs, "Ain't' Proud" and "Better Days," that were released. And my new music, soon to be released on August 19th, 2022, is "On my Mother."
"On my Mother" is inspired by my Nigerian mother's strength and wisdom. When most say "on God," I say "on my mother...I shall overcome anything and achieve everything I set my heart to." The song is an afrobeat and pop fusion with a strong message about finding your courage and not allowing anything to stop you, not even your self-doubts. The film I submitted is part of the song. I wanted to create a body of work that showcases the love and support I receive from my mother.
